A former pizza baker,[1] Newton is known for his galloping drum-style, and his use of Sabian equipment. Prior to joining Idlewild, Newton studied biology at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. He was taught to play the drums by Mrs. Sharp, a music teacher at Banff Academy in that time, where he attended school in his teenage years.
